Appraisals

Individuals and families interested in books can acquire many volumes over years of collecting. These libraries/collections are highly personal, reflecting the evolving tastes and interests of the owners. Many of these collections are passed along to succeeding generations, others are dispersed. Often they hold volumes of notable value.

Fortner Books provides locally based, qualified appraisal of these collections. From libraries to a few volumes, we provide a written appraisal for estate or insurance needs. The process involves careful determination of the specifics of each volume, assessment of the condition, and an estimate of the market or replacement value.

We maintain a large reference collection to assist us in authenticating special materials. This collection has grown substantially and continues to grow every year as we acquire these uncommon and valuable reference works.



Fees for appraisal work are usually determined on a set fee per hour, however other arrangements can be established.
